Symptom Assessment Tool
Assess Your Androgen Deficiency Risk
Take the clinically validated ADAM (Androgen Deficiency in Aging Males) questionnaire and the AMS (Aging Males’ Symptoms) scale. These screening tools help identify symptoms associated with low testosterone and androgen deficiency.
The ADAM questionnaire consists of 10 questions. Answer honestly based on how you’ve been feeling recently.

Understanding Your Results
Both the ADAM and AMS questionnaires are validated screening tools used in clinical practice to identify men who may have androgen deficiency.
ADAM Questionnaire
Scoring: Positive if you answer “Yes” to Question 1 or 2, or “Yes” to 3 or more of the remaining questions.
- Positive: High risk – consider laboratory testing
- Negative: Low risk – symptoms may have other causes
Note: The ADAM has a sensitivity of 88% and specificity of 60% for detecting androgen deficiency.
AMS Scale
Scoring: Total score based on 17 questions, each rated 1–5.
- 17–26: No symptoms (Low risk)
- 27–36: Mild symptoms (Moderate risk)
- 37–49: Moderate symptoms (High risk)
- 50+: Severe symptoms (Very high risk)
Note: The AMS scale also provides domain-specific scores for psychological, somatovegetative, and sexual symptoms.
Common Symptoms of Androgen Deficiency
Androgen deficiency (low testosterone) can present with a wide range of symptoms affecting physical, psychological, and sexual health.
| Category | Symptoms | Clinical Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Sexual | Low libido, erectile dysfunction, reduced morning erections, decreased ejaculatory volume | Often the most bothersome symptoms, highly correlated with low testosterone |
| Physical | Fatigue, loss of muscle mass, increased body fat, reduced strength, poor recovery from exercise | Commonly reported, may be mistaken for normal aging |
| Psychological | Depressed mood, irritability, low motivation, poor concentration, memory problems | Often overlooked but significantly impacts quality of life |
| Metabolic | Reduced bone density, insulin resistance, increased cardiovascular risk, reduced energy | Long-term health implications beyond symptoms |
Clinical Note: Symptoms of androgen deficiency are often nonspecific and may overlap with other conditions. A thorough clinical evaluation and laboratory testing are essential for accurate diagnosis.
Medical Disclaimer: The ADAM and AMS questionnaires are screening tools only and do not provide a medical diagnosis. A positive result does not confirm androgen deficiency – only laboratory testing can provide a definitive diagnosis.
